RETTEW AWARDED CONTRACT WITH PENNSYLVANIA
ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL
Firm to Create Master Plan for Wilkes-Barre Trail/Greenway
LANCASTER, Pa. – RETTEW, a comprehensive engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm serving the mid-Atlantic region, was recently awarded a contract by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) to prepare a trail/greenway master plan for the City of Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, and the Anthracite Scenic Trails Association (ASTA). PEC also awarded RETTEW with a contract in April of this year to provide a master plan and feasibility study for the proposed Greater Kingston Area Trail/Greenway, a neighboring Luzerne County city.
Funded in part by a grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund Grant Program, the proposed City of Wilkes-Barre Trail/Greenway project will identify a trail/greenway in Wilkes-Barre, key destinations and potential links to regional trails, including the Greater Kingston Area Trail/Greenway, using existing maps, global positioning system (GPS) software and geographic information system (GIS) data. Additionally, RETTEW will use local planning documents, including the 2004 Black Diamond Trail “Ridge-to-River” Connector Feasibility Study, to create the master plan.
In addition to the Greater Kingston Area Trail/Greenway Feasibility/Master Plan and the proposed City of Wilkes-Barre Trail/Greenway project, RETTEW provided the master plan, construction drawings and construction administration services for Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, a 10.75-mile hiking and non-motorized cycling and equestrian trail created from an abandoned railroad corridor to connect Newville Borough, the Village of Oakville and Shippensburg Borough in Cumberland County.
RETTEW offers engineering, land development, planning, surveying and environmental consulting services to a broad range of clients in the mid-Atlantic region.
