Do you know anyone who received a blood transfusion? How about someone who suffered a house fire or flood? Or is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?

Chances are, you do know someone who’s been in one or more of these scenarios. And there’s a good chance they’ve been helped by one international agency: the American Red Cross.

The nonprofit works through the generosity of volunteers and donors to prevent and alleviate suffering during emergencies. Worldwide, it provides shelter, basic necessities, lifesaving blood donations, support for military members and their families, and medical training. About 91 cents of every dollar donated is invested directly into its humanitarian services and programs.

In 2016, RETTEW and its employees are partnering with the American Red Cross through a workplace giving program and volunteer opportunities. Throughout the month of February, RETTEW staff had the opportunity to sign up for an annual giving commitment to the nonprofit. The firm matched donations up to $4,000, and in early March, awarded a check to the Red Cross for $8,400.

During the rest of 2016, employees will have the option to participate in corporately sponsored and other volunteer opportunities.

Kristen Morgret, manager and safety consultant for RETTEW, remembers how her family home burned down when she was in the 7th grade. The Red Cross was on the scene while the firefighters still worked to clean up the site. And that night, she and her family had a place to stay, along with clothes and other necessities. The American Red Cross also assisted with temporary housing and finding a more permanent place to live while the family moved forward with their lives.

This is one example of the many ways our employees have been impacted by the American Red Cross. Consider joining us in our purpose to support the communities we live and work in by donating to a cause you’re passionate about today!
