In 2021, Quarryville Borough received total grant funding of $20,000 through WalkWorks, a partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to develop an active transportation plan for the Borough. Active transportation is any self-propelled, human-powered mode of transportation, such as walking or bicycling. Demonstrating experience with both the WalkWorks program and transportation planning, RETTEW worked with the Borough to:
- Conduct a needs assessment
- Facilitate public involvement
- Identify projects and policies
- Prepare an active transportation plan for the Borough to seek funding for implementing recommended projects.
With the success of the Enola Low Grade Rail Trail, which was boosted by the completion of the nearby Safe Harbor and Martic Forge Trestle Bridges, the Borough looks to connect the popular rail trail to the center of town. This plan will be made a reality thanks, in part, to the grant funds that were recently awarded to the Borough.
