The Challenge
Delaware Valley
PCS and Cingular Wireless needed to fill a vital gap in cellular
communications coverage for tourists and residents of rural
Lancaster County. Because it would disrupt the pastoral landscape
and character of this scenic agricultural area, the Pennsylvania
Historical and Museum Commission would not grant them permission
for the construction of a standard monopole telecommunications
tower. |

Our Answer
RETTEW designed a "stealth" facility
that disguised the structure as a silo located on an active
farm. This innovative design met with state and local approval
for blending state-of-the-art technology and construction
seamlessly with rural surroundings. The American Council of
Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania honored this project
with a Diamond Award, recognizing it as an outstanding effort
to balance progress with preservation and to enhance the social
and economic well-being of the Commonwealth and its citizens.
