The Challenge
Tyson
Foods, the number one producer of poultry products in the
world, needed to expand their operations to keep up with increasing
consumer demand. But in preparing for the addition of a new
deboning line, Tyson Foods ran into a wall-literally. The
location of a 12-inch-thick concrete-block bearing wall that
was supporting the second floor, another wall above and the
roof prevented the installation of the new line unless another
structural support system could be devised. |

Our Answer
RETTEW took on the challenge
and designed a new structural system of steel columns and
support beams so the concrete-block bearing wall could be
removed without affecting the other plant operations. RETTEW's
plan also provided loading and deflection criteria so the
contractor's temporary shoring would safely support the structure
above during construction. Because of our structural design,
Tyson Foods was able to proceed with their expansion as planned.
