West Lampeter
Township initiated a comprehensive plan update in order to
completely revise the Township's existing 1989 Comprehensive
Plan. West Lampeter is one of the fastest growing townships
in Lancaster County but still retains over 60 percent of its
existing land use in agriculture, most of which is considered
prime farmland.

Our Answer
Using an extensive public participation
process, RETTEW prepared a unique comprehensive plan update,
fully customized to the Township's growth management needs.
The plan included a provision for agricultural holding and
agricultural preservation areas; the use of transferable development
rights; and a recommendation for creating a high-tech, clean
and green commercial/office park to diversify a tax base too
heavily reliant on residential taxes.
