RETTEW is excited to announce Good Karma Garage is the recipient of a $7,000 grant from the RETTEW Charitable Foundation (RCF)!
Jeff Case, Transportation Team Lead at RETTEW, serves as President and Lead Technician at Good Karma Garage. Jeff and his team provide no-cost car repairs to those in need, particularly veterans, in the greater Harrisburg area and beyond. Good Karma Garage’s generous volunteer work is an excellent fit for a RCF grant as RETTEW is passionate about supporting our communities.
“RETTEW applauds Jeff’s efforts to provide these repairs so veterans have safe, reliable, and legal vehicles,” said Shawn Barron, Chair of RETTEW’s Philanthropy Team. “So many veterans are struggling financially, and they should not have to choose between car maintenance and other life needs such as food, housing, medicine, etc.”
Good Karma Garage will use the RCF grant to purchase parts such as tires, brakes, and a tire balancing machine. In addition, employees will support the grant through direct, hands-on involvement by volunteering to:
- Provide customers with vehicle gift baskets including items such as windshield washer fluid, glass cleaner, multi-purpose wipes, air fresheners, gas gift cards, tire gauges, and small flashlights
- Replace 75 feet of seals on three roll-up garage doors
- Attend a shop “field day” to rearrange the entire workspace to accommodate the new tire balancing machine.
“I’m so grateful to the RCF for this grant,” Jeff said. “Many of our customers at Good Karma Garage are very much in need. Most don’t have the money to make necessary repairs to their vehicles, so it’s very rewarding to help them.”
Founded in 2021, the Good Karma Garage technicians volunteer their time to make repairs and bring cars into compliance with PA vehicle safety standards. In their first six months of operation, they provided customers with more than $10,000 in parts and $14,000 in labor. Jeff’s work with Good Karma Garage also earned him a spot as a 2022 Jefferson Award national finalist – learn more about it by clicking here!
Jeff mentioned many of their customers also pay it forward by donating their time to other charities such as food banks, Meals on Wheels, and local churches.
“It’s pretty inspiring helping these folks who have so little but are still assisting others,” Jeff said. “The money the RCF is putting into Good Karma Garage will be multiplied through these individuals.”
