The Comcast Innovation and Technology Center in Philadelphia is the tallest building in the U.S. outside New York and Chicago. At 1,121 feet tall, the skyscraper contains 1.5 million square feet.
During construction, each building component is handled multiple times. This means there’s an increased risk for injury during delivery, unloading, transporting, shakeout, and installation of critical units such as the HVAC systems.
RETTEW worked as the on-site safety manager for the mechanical contractor, ensuring a safe work environment.
Site visits from the general contractor, owner, regulatory agencies, and insurance inspectors were extremely common, requiring near perfection from a safety standpoint at all times. RETTEW’s Safety Consultants ensured a safe work environment and protection of property for all employees and subcontractors, while monitoring the jobsite for compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, contractor, and owner safety policies. We also established health and safety plans for specific assignments.
Our team oversaw about 60 steamfitters and plumbers installing about 2 miles of copper pipe on 36 of the 59 floors.
The building will be a highlight of the Philadelphia skyline, and RETTEW is proud to say we were part of its safe completion.
