Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction (INSR) Program

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund

With the overall goal to restore the Chesapeake Bay’s water quality and habitats, the intent of the INSR program is to accelerate “the implementation of proven water quality improvement practices…and approaches necessary to achieve remaining pollution reductions by the Total Maximum Daily Load’s 2025 deadline.” INSR offers two grant tracks, Partnership and Infrastructure, for eligible projects that occur within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Note: All prospective applicants are required to consult with NFWF program staff by January 24, 2024, to confirm eligibility and receive feedback. For details, please refer to the INSR 2024 Request for Proposals.

Eligible Entities: Non-profit 501(c) organizations, state government agencies, local and municipal governments, Tribal governments and organizations, and educational institutions
Award Amount: $500,000-$2 million each, for 20-40 individual grants
Required Match: Non-federal matching contributions equal to the grant amount request are required for the INSR Partnership Grants; non-federal matching contributions are encouraged but not required for the INSR Infrastructure Grants.

WalkWorks

Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Downtown Center

The mission of WalkWorks is “to increase access and opportunities for physical activities, such as walking, biking, wheeling, and using public transit.” To support this mission, WalkWorks provides funds for developing active transportation plans that guide establishing safe, accessible, active routes connecting everyday destinations, and also help with expanding opportunities for physical activity and improving public health.

Note: WalkWorks is hosting an optional, informational webinar about the WalkWorks Funding Opportunity Announcement on Wednesday, February 7, at noon. Register to attend and have the opportunity to ask questions about the application process and program.

Eligible Entities: Municipalities – namely boroughs, townships, cities, or counties – and Metropolitan and Rural Planning Organizations
Award Amount: $15,000-$35,000, depending on population size and priority area designation
Required Match: Communities/counties identified as priority areas are not required to provide cost sharing/matching funds. Communities/counties not identified as priority areas are required to provide a cash match equal to 50% of the requested award; documentation of the match must be submitted with the application.
Applications Due: March 22, 2024, by 5:00 PM


Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2)

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources

C2P2 grants provide funding for projects related to parks, recreation, and conservation. Funding is available for the following types of projects:

Note: Applicants are encouraged to watch the General Overview and applicable grant webinar videos on DCNR’s YouTube channel. In addition, prior to starting an application, contact the Bureau of Recreation and Conservation Regional Advisor assigned to the region where the project is located for assistance with developing a competitive application.

Eligible Entities: County and municipal governments, municipal agencies, non-profit organizations, prequalified land trusts, state-designated heritage areas, and, for some grant types, for-profit enterprises
Award Amount: Varies
Required Match: Varies, although most C2P2 Grants require a dollar-for-dollar match
