Meet Matt Bruckner, Environmental & Geotechnology Regional Director. Matt’s passion for his job stems from his love of collaboration and learning from a diverse range of disciplines, including geology, hydrogeology, wetlands, and civil engineering. He thrives on seeing how multidiscipline projects come together to deliver comprehensive solutions for clients. He values his colleagues’ insights and problem-solving approaches, which help him make informed decisions as a manager and see the bigger picture. Despite being an introvert by nature, Matt has learned to navigate the extroverted demands of his role, especially in people management. He believes managing and coaching staff is a dynamic and ever-changing challenge, requiring emotional intelligence and a focus on his team’s success to achieve project goals.
One of Matt’s most memorable experiences on the job happened at his very first job during his first week in the field. With minimal training, he found himself behind a geotechnical rig, witnessing a driller’s helper lift a low-hanging utility line with a shovel to allow the rig to pass. This unsafe method was a stark lesson in what not to do, leading him to seek better opportunities. Outside of work, Matt enjoys golfing, reading, watching sports, and refurbishing old furniture. A man of science, here he is pictured with the Apollo 14 Command Module, which Mission Commander Alan Shepard and his team used during their successful lunar exploration mission.
