Borough of Tyrone Headworks Design

RETTEW supported Tyrone Borough by advancing upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant’s headworks after identifying that improved screening would enhance downstream processes and overall plant performance. A previously completed feasibility study established the recommended approach, and RETTEW used those findings to move the project into design.

Our team delivered surveying, permitting, engineering design, and bid‑phase services to implement a new mechanical bar screen system. The work included evaluating existing infrastructure, developing modifications to accommodate new screening equipment, and preparing the required Water Quality Management Permit application. Additionally, RETTEW designed the structural, process, and electrical improvements needed to integrate the new screen and associated components into the headworks.

We also prepared the contract documents, coordinated with the equipment supplier, and managed the public bidding process. These efforts prepared the Borough for replacing the grinder units with a modern screening system that removed debris at the start of treatment and supported more reliable downstream performance. The new screen protects downstream equipment, saving the Borough and rate payers from costly repairs and replacements.
