The City of Williamsport continues to be one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation and was looking for creative ways to capitalize on this advantage. The City wanted to proactively address its infrastructure maintenance issues, further advance its Capital Investment and Improvement Plans, and expand the city’s ongoing community revitalization projects to infuse economic growth into the downtown area.
RETTEW secured a $3 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant for a multi-million-dollar downtown redevelopment project in the city’s Central Business District to help draw commerce, generate tourism, and create jobs. This effort alone is expected to bring in about 100 temporary jobs, retain hundreds of existing jobs, and create approximately 350 new jobs within the city. By collaborating with City officials and regional stakeholders in their annual planning and budgeting processes, RETTEW also helped Williamsport to attain $800,000 in additional cost-sharing and county grants for various rehabilitation, city development, and public transportation initiatives. Altogether, these dollars will enable the City to leverage close to $23 million to complete important community projects in support of its commercial, housing, and industrial sectors.
