Engleside Intersection Improvements

Engleside intersection was an unsafe, complex five-legged signalized intersection in Lancaster County. There were 13 serious accidents at this intersection within a three-year timeframe. The Township needed to improve the safety of the intersection while maintaining full access to the major water and sewer facilities that were adjacent to the intersection.

RETTEW assisted the Township in obtaining grants from Lancaster County and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which saved the taxpayers of Lancaster Township more than $300,000. By combining traditional traffic and highway engineering with state-of-the-art signalization technology, RETTEW was able to improve the efficiency and safety of the intersection while keeping the major water and sewer facilities completely accessible. RETTEW also completed the project on time and at a construction cost less than the contract bid price.
