The Maple Street Garage project presented the challenge of replacing two outdated parking facilities with a single modern structure that could support the City of Allentown’s growing parking needs while incorporating sustainable infrastructure. Our team provided civil engineering services to ensure a functional, environmentally responsible design.
RETTEW’s services included the design of a stormwater management system, highlighted by an 18,175-SF green roof that significantly reduces impervious cover and improves water retention. The green roof, planted with ten varieties of sedum, helps manage stormwater, reduce the heat island effect, and promote environmental sustainability. The green roof’s vegetation not only contributes to stormwater control but also enhances the aesthetic value of the garage, providing a natural element in an urban setting.
Overall, RETTEW’s solutions helped transform the Maple Street Garage into a sustainable, accessible, and efficient facility that meets the city’s infrastructure demands while reducing its environmental footprint. This project won the Apex Award for Sustainable Design from the International Parking & Mobility Institute.
