Deltech Polymers was looking to reinforce its personal fall arrest system (PFAS) at its rail car loading and offloading area. This project presented many challenges including several adjacent live rail lines and an existing curvature in the rail spur. As an authorized dealer for Rigid Lifelines, RETTEW proposed a new solution for optimized safety. Before beginning, we evaluated the preexisting access platform and overhead structure to ensure adequate integrity. Using an overhead (track) PFAS anchorage system, we determined the proper calculations and replaced the existing cable lifeline system with a two-person, passable Rigid Lifelines system.
Since Deltech Polymers’ rail cars are connected to rail and highway transport systems, the PFAS is critically important when it comes to employee safety. As with many cable lifeline systems, over time they become less efficient. RETTEW conducted a structural analysis to design the layout and connection details, as well as the materials installation methodology for the Rigid Lifelines system. RETTEW handled the vendor pricing and procurement, and managed the design, installation, construction, and safety oversight to make this fall protection project seamless at this multi-train production facility.
