The Oxford Area Sewer Authority’s Sanitary Sewer District No. 1 service area contributes the majority flow to the Authority’s wastewater treatment facility via the Sixth Street Pump Station. Concerns about the station’s existing influent flow volume and anticipation of additional commercial flow — and considering the station’s significance to the collection system — the Authority needed to understand its capacity limitations.
RETTEW completed an in-depth evaluation of the station and determined it was undersized for the current flow conditions, operating at approximately 110 percent capacity. Recognizing the strain that this excessive flow volume would put on a station originally constructed in the 1940s, the Authority commissioned RETTEW to design a new station sized to accommodate future flows. This new station not only allowed for additional growth in the Oxford area, but also maintained the Sixth Street Station, which is a critical component of the Authority’s sewage collection system.
