UGI was searching for a partner to help install a cutting-edge carport solar array at their new headquarters. Their primary goals were to reduce energy consumption, increase sustainability and decrease their carbon footprint, and stabilize the long-term economic cost of energy at the facility. UGI also wanted a visually appealing installation that complemented the LEED-certified headquarters building.
Several design challenges manifested during the project, such as complicated interconnections and preexisting site conditions, such as on-site stormwater and easements. RETTEW developed solutions to address each obstacle by leveraging our comprehensive services and effectively communicating with local authorities and regulatory agencies.
The final $1.58 million array covers 75 parking spaces and includes 1,078 390W panels and six 60kW inverters, with continuous generation monitoring and a weather station. The carport solar array works in tandem with the site’s combined heat and power units to reduce grid power use. Completed in 11 months, from notice to proceed to final tie-in, project outcomes included 520 MWH estimated generation annually and 570 tons of CO2 offset annually.
