To support continued growth and modernize operations, Utz Brands, Inc., expanded its Hanover manufacturing and distribution footprint with a 650,000-SF distribution center and a 75,000-SF production facility for its potato skins line. The project consolidated East Coast warehousing and distribution under one roof, improving efficiency and reducing operating costs while supporting hundreds of local jobs.
RETTEW provided comprehensive services, from site evaluation through final permitting and construction support. Our team completed boundary and topographic surveying; land title survey plats for project financing; wetland delineation, permitting, and monitoring; and extensive geotechnical investigations, including infiltration testing, fracture trace analysis, and soil classification, to meet stormwater regulations. Our engineers designed two managed release concept basins, storm sewer systems, and erosion and sediment control measures to comply with NPDES requirements while preserving natural site features.
One unusual challenge involved a deed restriction limiting building height due to an adjacent radio tower. RETTEW coordinated with a specialized radio engineer to verify signal clearances and confirm allowable structure height, unlocking additional vertical space for the warehouse and increasing operational capacity.
Winner of the Central Penn Business Journal’s Top Projects Award, this project transformed this facility into a high-performing industrial campus, strengthening Utz’s supply chain resilience and supporting long-term economic vitality in Hanover and the surrounding region.
