Firm Jumps by 249 Spots to Become 166 on Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 List

RETTEW today announced a jump of 249 spots on Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) annual list of top 500 design firms in the country. Since last year’s ENR ranking, the firm jumped from number 415 to number 166. RETTEW provides engineering, planning, environmental consulting and surveying to a wide range of clients across the country.

RETTEW’s dramatic leap in ENR’s annual list, which ranks firms based on design revenue from the previous year, garnered the firm the title of “fastest–growing firm on the Top 500 this year,” according to ENR, a national publication that reports on trends and news in the construction, design and engineering industries.

“RETTEW’s continued pursuit of new, emerging markets and creation of additional services, combined with an expert staff dedicated to providing clients with service second to none, has enabled us to achieve astounding success at an unprecedented rate,” said Mark Lauriello, PE, president, RETTEW. RETTEW’s 2012 ENR ranking now positions the company as a nationally recognized firm.

The firm’s expansion in the energy and utilities market served as the primary driver of RETTEW’s increase in ranking on ENR’s top 500 list. From 2009 to present, RETTEW has jumped more than 300 spots on the list. In addition to the energy and utilities market, RETTEW serves clients in the commercial, government, healthcare, higher education, industrial, resource conservation, residential and transportation markets.

“Our strategy to diversify into new markets as other markets rebound from the economic downturn has proven very successful,” added Lauriello. In the following year, RETTEW expects that it will be begin to see renewed growth in the water/wastewater and transportation markets as the economy continues to recover.

RETTEW’s financial success throughout the past year prompted the firm to open new offices and expand or relocate existing offices. In 2011, RETTEW expanded its Lancaster office with a 21,000-square-foot building addition. The firm also relocated and expanded offices in the Lehigh Valley and Williamsport, Pa. Additionally, RETTEW added offices in Pittsburgh and Athens, Pa. and opened its first Canton, Ohio office, bringing its total number of offices to ten. Other office locations include Mechanicsburg and Schuylkill Haven, Pa; and Delhi and Liberty, N.Y. The firm began in 1969 as a single-person office.

In 2011, RETTEW also doubled its staff, from 200 to 400 employees. Presently employing more than 475 professionals, RETTEW continues to seek engineers and environmental scientists to work in all of its offices. In 2011 RETTEW was named as a Best Place to Work in PA, ranking 12th in the category of large companies.

“We are a fortunate company whose success is due largely to the clients we serve, our valued business partners and our employees,” added Lauriello.

In turn for its success, RETTEW is able to provide greater support to the communities where its employees and clients live. In 2011, RETTEW formed the RETTEW Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that offers assistance to organizations in which RETTEW’s employees are involved or invested. A recent companywide food drive, which the RETTEW Charitable Foundation spearheaded, resulted in 6,000 pounds of food and more than $16,000 being donated to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) in their Harrisburg and Williamsport locations. CPFB-affiliated locations in Pittsburgh and Schuylkill Haven also received donations, in addition to food banks in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley and the Catskill Mountain region of New York.

“Creating the RETTEW Charitable Foundation is just one more way we’re able to share our success with and give back to the community,” added Lauriello.
