Unprecedented Growth Prompts Firm’s Expansion in Lancaster and Abroad — Hires 200 Employees in One Year

RETTEW, an engineering, planning and environmental consulting firm, today officially dedicated a 21,000-square-foot building addition at its Lancaster office complex, 3020 Columbia Avenue.

“This new building is a physical representation of the unprecedented growth we’ve achieved over the past few years, and I’m truly honored to be a part of this great organization,” said Mark Lauriello, PE, president, RETTEW, at today’s ceremony. In addition to RETTEW officials, Lancaster County Commissioners and representatives from the Economic Development Company of Lancaster County and Professional Design and Construction were on site for today’s building dedication.

RETTEW’s dramatic growth in revenue and staff, and new and/or expanded office locations are largely due to the firm’s growth in the energy market and its providing engineering, consulting and construction related services to natural gas exploration and production firms involved in Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale Region. The firm is well versed in the environmental regulations surrounding natural gas drilling and exploration and assists natural gas clients with achieving environmental compliance for their projects.

“RETTEW is very fortunate to be thriving during generally difficult economic times!” added Lauriello.

From 2010 to 2011, RETTEW experienced a 107 percent year-over-year increase in total revenue and hired approximately 200 employees, bringing the total number of employees to approximately 400. RETTEW also added offices in the Lehigh Valley, Pittsburgh, and Williamsport, Pa.; the firm will soon open offices in Athens, Pa., and Canton, Ohio, bringing the total number of office locations to ten. Other office locations include Mechanicsburg and Schuylkill Haven, Pa., and Liberty and Margaretville, N.Y. The firm began in 1969 as a single-person office.

In 2010, RETTEW also created a second company, Rettew Flowback Inc. (RFI). RFI provides flowback treatment, frac support and construction services to natural gas exploration and production firms. RETTEW also jumped 21 spots this year in Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) list of top 500 design firms in the country, garnering 415 on the list and the firm’s highest ranking ever.

For the 21,000-square-foot building addition, RETTEW obtained $3.4 million in low-interest bank financing as part of the Recovery Zone Facility Bond program. The Economic Development Company of Lancaster County administered the loan and Professional Design & Construction, Landisville, Pa., served as contractor for the project.
