Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission 10-Mile Rehabilitation

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission identified a number of potential safety issues along aging sections of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The safety concerns existed between Milepost A-49 and A-59 along the Northeast Extension of the Turnpike and included outdated median guide rails, worn pavement surfaces, and deteriorating bridges.

RETTEW provided transportation design for the $21 million improvement project. RETTEW’s services included resurfacing more than 10 miles of the turnpike mainline, Lehigh Valley interchange, and the Allentown service plaza. We also completed shoulder repairs, median reconstruction, pavement cross-slope corrections, repairs to 12 mainline and overhead bridges, access ramp reconstruction, guide rail upgrades, drainage improvements, and design of the maintenance and protection of traffic for all construction activities. These enhancements greatly improved the safety of this 10-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
