One of only 13 in the world.  Now that’s impressive!

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) awarded the Downtown Allentown Revitalization District a Global Award for Excellence.

Widely recognized as the industry’s most prestigious award, this real estate development project was submitted by the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority.

Winning projects demonstrate innovative, forward-looking approaches to design and development. Criteria include leadership, contribution to the community, innovations, public/private partnerships, environmental protection and enhancement, response to societal needs, and financial viability. Eight projects within the U.S. were selected, along with several projects in other countries.

The Allentown project is one of two in the Northeast U.S. to be selected.

The downtown district was created under a state law allowing Neighborhood Improvement Zones. Anchored by a city block with the PPL Center, many other buildings have gone up nearby, including the Renaissance Allentown Hotel, STRATA West and East, The Shops at City Center, and RETTEW’s offices in Three City Center.

“Cities are about people – the way we interact, get around, and go about our daily routines. Great cities are made of great places that make the urban experience easy and enjoyable,” said ULI Global CEO Patrick L. Phillips. “These projects reflect the highest standards of design, construction, economics, planning, and management. But most important, they are improving people’s quality of life.”

Contributors to the project award in Allentown include developers and owners in the area: City Center Investment Corp., Hammes Company, Alvin H. Butz, Inc., and Charles Street Capital.

We’re so excited to be a part of this budding community. RETTEW has been providing foundational services for many of these building projects, including surveying, safety consulting, and engineering designs and permitting.
