RETTEW conducted a site characterization and remedial action of a former automobile service and fueling station property acquired by the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA). Upon acquisition, historical regulatory obligations related to a past underground storage tank closure were identified. RETTEW conducted a comprehensive site characterization and assessment that included 13 monitoring wells, numerous soil borings, and a vapor intrusion evaluation under the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) Storage Tank Program. The characterization demonstrated historical petroleum impacts did not and would not migrate past the property boundary. It also indicated the historical impacts presented no risk of exposure to human health or ecological receptors following implementation of a remedial action plan.

RETTEW conducted quarterly groundwater monitoring and implemented activity and use limitations to manage potential risk related to site impacts. We prepared a site characterization report, a remedial action plan, remedial action progress reports, and a remedial action completion report for PA DEP in pursuit of regulatory closure for the petroleum-impacted site. RETTEW coordinated with PA DEP throughout the project, and PA DEP approved the completed project and remedial action completion report. The site impacts related to the historical petroleum release were remediated to a standard under the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act (Act 2) for both soil and groundwater.
