Glo Fiber OSP Fiber Design

RETTEW and Glo Fiber, a Shentel subsidiary, paired together to bring high-speed internet to the smaller communities of Pennsylvania by designing fiber routes from the backbone (fiber) to each customer’s home.

For this outside plant (OSP) design engineering project, RETTEW reverse-engineered an existing project provided by the client. Our goal was to develop a relational database and GIS plugin to manage the project data in one place. Our engineers used the plugin to indicate design intent, while our software handled the sizing of cables, naming and numbering of splitters and fibers, and other details. Our software automatically checks for a variety of errors, which streamlines QA/QC. We built exporters for each type of deliverable, allowing us to quickly generate new documents without the risk of conflicting information. The end product allows RETTEW’s deliverables to be consistent from both a design and quality standpoint.

RETTEW’s investment in the process allowed us to serve both the client and our communities. Through this successful OSP fiber design project, potential customers can have convenient, reliable internet service delivered right to their homes.
