Built in 1897, the Stehli Silk Mill was once a productive, lively place to work for hundreds of employees. But with the loss of manufacturing in the region, the building has laid vacant and deteriorating for decades. The site is ideally located across the street from a 1920s era residential community and within walking distance to downtown Lancaster. The developer of this 11-acre site has a vision to convert the historic Stehli Silk Mill site into a new, vibrant, mixed-use project that would reinvigorate that area of the city.
RETTEW worked with the developer and architect to produce full survey, land development, and construction documentation needed to gain approvals to redevelop the site. When complete, Stehli Silk Mill will comprise a mix of 165 residential studio and one- and two-bedroom market-rate apartments, 4,500 SF for restaurant use, and 5,000 SF dedicated to commercial retail use. With robust outdoor open space and amenities, including an outdoor plaza, walking paths, and a dog park, this project will be a major catalyst to the redevelopment of a portion of Lancaster City.
