South Londonderry Township, through its comprehensive plan, identified the need to provide a safe integration of travel for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclist. The plan identified two distinct classifications in the township: Urban and Rural. In the Urban areas, the plan called for the Township to retrofit some pedestrian linkage with nearby civic uses, schools, commercial areas, and adjoining neighborhoods. Based upon continued community input, the Board of Supervisors initiated a crosswalk feasibility study for key areas within the Urban areas of the township. The Township identified 23 locations for the crosswalk evaluation.
Upon approval of the crosswalk evaluation, the Board of Supervisors selected seven priority projects for which RETTEW completed design, prepared bid specifications, updated traffic signal permits and controls, and provided construction management and oversight services.
