State College Solar Array

As a Utility of the Future Today award winner, the University Area Joint Authority continues to look for ways to increase the sustainability of their operations while providing high-quality water reclamation and reuse operations in the State College area.

Through an innovative public-private partnership, the Authority hired the RETTEW team — including a New York City-based renewable energy financing firm — to design and build one of the larger solar arrays in Pennsylvania. Together we will implement this 2.7-megawatt ground-based solar array that will produce approximately 25 percent of the Authority’s overall electric power requirements. This increased renewable energy use at the Authority’s wastewater treatment plant will result in long-term savings of $2 million over 25 years.
