RETTEW developed a master site plan for South Hanover Township’s Patriot Park on the Township’s newly acquired property. The park is located between the Emergency Services Center and the municipal offices, and sits on top of a closed landfill. The park’s amenities include a paved multi-use trail; nature trails; and an outdoor educational area, which was designed to maintain the existing wildlife habitat, natural areas, and view sheds. The trail system connects to the municipal offices, with future connections planned to the nearby elementary school and antique car museum.
RETTEW’s planning included public participation meetings with the Township Steering Committee and the public to develop the features and design of the park amenities. We presented the master site plan to the South Hanover Township Board of Supervisors, and held meetings to coordinate with the Township Park and Recreation Board, Board of Supervisors, Township staff, as well as the public and adjoining property owners. RETTEW submitted successful grant applications to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, resulting in project funding totaling $400,000, which the Township used to construct the facilities in Phase 1 of the master plan.
