On-site Safety Consulting for Hydroelectric Power Station Upgrades

A hydroelectric dam operator planned to strip and rebuild one of the pump turbines at their dam. The sheer size of these turbines presented many unique hazards, and the replacement required a constant presence from safety professionals to ensure a smooth transition. Since the operations could not halt completely, replacement efforts took place outside normal operating hours. RETTEW provided oversight nightly to ensure the upgrades were performed safely through the entire project.

Shortly after our work began, the client expanded their project scope, requiring senior safety staff to perform more specialized work. We developed safety training plans and completed forklift training and site safety training for on-site supervisors. We also completed an expanded site safety inspection and safety orientation for the client’s staff. The dam operator removed and upgraded the turbine with no issues, and their staff is now trained to continue operating using best practices for safety.
